As far as I have seen, Allen French made them up. I've never seen a medieval reference to any such lay, nor to any chronicle of Sir Marrok. Marrok turns up precisely twice, both times in Malory, both times very briefly.

You might be interested in a Celtic folktale analogue -- the story of Morraha, which might be a relation of sorts. I haven't investigated, but the name similarity struck me. It has much more traceable folklore motifs (notably the Hand and the Child type) than the English or French stories of shape changing.

Ahaa.
Only I asked this because in that very novel, each chapter begins with a verse deriven from something the author calls "The Lay of Sir Marrok" (and I don't know whether he made it up or if it actually exists). Allen French also refers to the "Chronicle of Sir Marrok" which has been lost. Have you heard of either?

As I said, I made it up, taking huge chunks from Bisclavret, with the differences I mentioned in the pretend introduction.

I looked only at medieval sources. I'm afraid I don't have time to read much outside of those these days!

Ahh very informative if I may say so. But just to clarify:
Was the whole tale (the version in your draft) written by yourself?
Was it a grafting of the stories of Bisclavret and Sir Gorlagon?
Have you considered the novel "Sir Marrok; a tale of the days of King Arthur" by Allen French in your paper?
